Reciprocating Compressors Defined Explained

Reciprocating compressors also known as piston compressor is just like a piston driven crankshaft. Its function and usage is to deliver gases at high pressure.

Thus it works for a positive displacement compressor. There are many categories of reciprocating compressors. These can be based depending upon their usages in various fields like in oil refineries, gas pipes, chemical industries, natural gas industries and refrigeration factories. Among all these applications there exists a very special one that is actually the polyethylene plastic bottles.

One thing to keep in mind is that the reciprocating compressors usage depends upon the kind of industrial field, and the type of gases used to compress air in the instrument of air systems. These gases can be like hydrogen, oxygen or other ones. These are basically used in the chemical manufacturing processes or in the refining processes done by light hydrocarbon fractions. Furthermore there are also many other gases that are meant for storage purpose, transmission or some other application. For ease one can do two classifications of the reciprocating compressors used in industrial process: One is the intermittent flow also termed as positive flow. It includes the reciprocating and rotary types. While the other one is termed as the continuous flow and it includes the centrifugal and axial flow types. In high compression ratios are noted. But this is done without including the high rates of flow. The ratio is basically that of discharge to the suction pressure. The reciprocating compressors serve as a function by which fluid is dried.

Basic Design:

A typical reciprocating compressor works as a primary component in the industrial process! Its installation basically grants the presence of many excepting things. The piston works to compress the gas while the reciprocating action is done. The arrangements can be either single or dual acting design. The piston rod has its both ends working for providing the function of equal surface. They are meant to balance the loads. They are used while the high pressure is applied. The dynamic loads can be reduced using the locating cylinders in pairs. This is basically connected to some common crankshaft in a way that leads to the opposite movement aided by Tandem cylinder arrangement. One thing important to note is that the use of disposable piston rings and the bands for riding purpose seal the gas pressure. They are meant to reduce the wear of expensive components. This on the other hand also helps in forming the soft metals such as the polytetrafluroethylene. The non-lubricated designs of reciprocating compressors are mostly used at places where zero tolerance is required. The process is typically started in the mechanical valve section. This is the place where the gas enters the cylinder. The gas is then squeezed, contained and gradually released by the valves. Then it is undergone to a section for automatic process. One thing to keep in mind is that the cylinder could also consist of another valve for suction purpose. But this depends on the type of design one is using in the process. Reciprocating compressors have also found many uses in pharmaceutical sector.
